Dan Clouser took over at the helm of the Red Sox 16-U team in 2003, moving up with several players from the 14-U squad he had coached for the previous two seasons.
After starting 0-4 the Red Sox 16-U team hovered around the .500 mark for the majority of the 2003 season.
A 1-0 loss in the Ozzy’s 18-U Fall Classic Tournament, to one of the premier 18-U teams in the area, the Moosic Mets, proved to be the turning point on the 16-U Sox season. The Sox became more confident and more focused from that point on and won eight of their last ten games, half of which were against 18-U competition. They went on to set a Red Sox 16-U team record for wins in a season with a 21-13-2 mark and brought home the Championship of the T.G.I.Friday’s Octoberfest Wood Bat Tournament and finished second in the 18-U Sports at the Beach Columbus Day Classic in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
